You can change the defaults if you want to allow people to profile their character's information rather than the player's information. In the Administration Panel, under the tab for "Users & Groups", select "User Options" and scroll down to the Birthdays settings. It's an unimportant detail, but nice that you can play around with the profile settings and labels if you want to.

Something that might be more interesting is the built in chat box. You can activate that by going into the Administration Panel, under the tab for "Modules", select "configuration" for the Chatbox and activate it. It's a pretty basic chat box and I don't think you can control which user groups have access to it, so you won't want to use if for members only discussions, but a nice feature to have.
